unruly ocean
tossed in an unruly ocean
unsure of which way to turn
my stomach roils in time with the waves
here is a place i dread
yet i often test the waters here
this time it will be different
i will not fight
i will not shout
this time i will lie back
look up
wait
listen
until i hear the voice
the only one i trust
my heart is at peace
for here, in the midst of what feels like my undoing
i am being put back together
here where i feel i have no direction
i am being placed on course
i don’t know where i’m going
but know i’ll recognize it when i arrive
it will probably look much like this space
only this time
i will not fight
i will not shout
i will lie back
look up
wait
listen
and
reach out and grab the hands of those
sharing this unruly ocean with me
recognizing we are not in a bad place
but the best place we could be in
our own desires surrendered
to one much greater than our own
we are silent
we are waiting
we are listening
