A tale of two kiddies...

This past Sunday, the family went to Baltimore’s Inner Harbor for a late afternoon stroll. Sometime since the last time we took a stroll downtown, a fountain of sorts has been installed along the promenade. This fountain is not a stately reflection pool with an oversized bird bath shooting up spray in the middle. It’s a series of holes in the pavement from which water shoots up unexpectedly at different times and heights…a fountain made for playing!

It was warm Sunday afternoon, but not terribly hot so I warned the kids that if they ran through the water, they might catch a bit of a chill, but it was up to them to take that risk. Ana immediately ran over and waited for the perfect time to run through and had a perfectly rip roaring good time. David stood by my side, holding my hand and watching.

Soon, we continued our stroll around the harbor. David decided that he would run through the fountain as we passed by it again if his Dad would take a picture. Ana, now an experienced fountain runner, waited until she saw the highest and most concentrated sprays and ran through, gregarious and laughing… completely soaked at the end. David, waited until Ana was finished and ran through when the water was not so high, with a very determined look on his face. He was a little damp on the other end, but not soaked like Ana. But, now he could say he had run through the fountain and had the photographic evidence to prove it.

It’s funny to me, that these two children could be so different and have the same two parents. Ana, storms her way through life and always has. That child was determined to climb the monkey bars at 15 months old when we went to the playground. David didn’t walk until he was 15 months old. Ana: loves to read fantasy, mystery and historical novels. David: reads encyclopedias and tells me facts all day long. I’ve started calling him, “my little scientist.”

As we said to them in the car —coincidentally on the way to the harbor— both ways of being are good… neither better than the other. Both will leave their talents as great offerings if used thoughtfully.

I’m pleased as punch with both of them. Sorry to brag…

Blessings…

We'll be down that way in a couple weeks to go to a Red Sox/Orieles game at Camden Yards. I love the Inner Harbor. What a load of fun you had!

Tis so true...the difference of two children from the same set of parents. It is wonderful the uniqueness each of us has...God's stamp.

Joy!
