A new kind of superhero
Laura | Comments Off | David, my youngest son, has always had a particular affinity for super heroes. When he was between the ages of 2 and 3, I had to beg him to remove a Superman costume he wore every day so that I could wash it. At times, David has actually been convinced that he could fly. Once, he even constructed wings from two un-bent coat hangers and trash bags and asked if he could try to fly off the front porch. One of the greatest compliments he ever paid me was to draw a picture of a woman in a cape with the caption, “My mom is a hero.” I carry that little picture with me in my wallet every day.
David was born into the right time for superhero affinity. Every other month there is a new superhero movie offered at the local theater. We rarely partake of these in the theater, preferring to wait until his father and I could preview them via pay per view and determine their appropriateness for a child his age.
David’s current favorite is Iron Man. For a boy, who can be cooler than Iron Man the attainable hero. A man, just a regular man with quite a bit of brain power, builds a suit and becomes super. Wow! One of the items in David’s current collection of superhero stuff is an Iron Man beach towel. Last night, he wrapped the towel cape-like around his neck, grabbed his Harry Potter wand, stormed into the living and declared:
“Never fear, Irony is here!”
You can’t make this stuff up folks!
