Don't say I told you so...

I don’t often talk about my job here.  My work as a speech-language pathologist for a non-public school serving developmentally and emotionally disabled children requires that I respect their privacy.  However, I think it may be possible to speak in such general terms that I could possibly make a few remarks.

To say the job is challenging would be an understatement.  The laws surrounding special education require a related service provider such as me to almost be superhuman.  One can’t get sick or have family emergencies because the students one serves must get their services at all costs.  It’s the law, friends!  However, there is another law written on our hearts that makes this job all the more challenging.  If I fail these kids, they lose the ability to make the connections in their lives that really matter.

Winter...

An impromptu poem from one of my journal entries this week:

But, Oh winter,
I have had enough of you!
Of pasty, itchy skin,
Frozen toes and runny noses.
Now, even now, the days grow longer.
The sun will get you in the end!!

My Bike

Somehow or other, I’ve never quite outgrown my love of a bike.  I remember asking for a bike for my 6th birthday.  My parents obliged and then my Dad spent a weekend running alongside me, teaching me to ride it (no training wheels for me!).  Occasionally, he and I would ride our bikes together on weekends.

Wah bam!!

Today, after several years of becoming reacquainted with bike riding, it finally happened. I fell. I was actually heading towards the home stretch of my ride today, which happens to take me through a parking lot with speed bumps. I don’t like to take my bike over speed bumps so I cut the front tire to the right to avoid it…but I cut it a little too far.
