Extreme

One morning this week while driving to work I finished my audio book and had to listen to the radio.  Well, I suppose, I didn’t have to listen to the radio, but at the time it seemed like an attractive option. Rarely do I listen to the radio outside of NPR or the local station to get weather and traffic updates, so I spun the figurative dial (seek buttons) listening for something worth hearing.

I landed on a song that instantly transported me to another place and time in my life.  I think I’ve even written about it before, but it’s been a few years and here I am a little closer to the end of my life than the beginning and so the memory begins to take on a different patina.  The song was by early 90’s hair band, Extreme.  In my mind, I traveled back to the top of mountain in Tennessee, evening, stars so close you thought you could touch them.  The air was cool but slightly damp because we were sitting close to the edge of wood.

One of those days...

From banging my knee on one of the exercise machines, to leaving my nice headphones there instead of packing them up in my gym bag. My hair was kooky (OK, it’s always, kooky, but kookier than normal), my front driver’s side tire was low and I forgot to water the plants. Think I’ll move to Australia.

A little child shall lead her...

Pascha has arrived, and this year with beautiful, glorious weather!  A little on the warm side for so early in April, but so much better than the gloomy rain we had last year.  The tulip cherry and pear trees are now leafing out just in time for the dogwoods (my favorite flowering tree) to come into bloom.

Pascha was a little different for me this year, gorgeous explosion of blooming trees aside.  For the first time since becoming an Orthodox Christian, I attended all of the Holy Week services our parish offers.  I can’t really brag about it, because it wasn’t my idea.

The kids were on spring break last week and I needed to work the first three days and then planned to take off Thursday, Friday and Monday.  Since my students were also on break, I could bring in the kids to work with me, but I had so much to do they could only come for one day.  Jim was slammed with work, and behind on deadlines and so on Sunday and Monday evenings, he kept to a pretty crazy, go to bed at 6PM, wake up and work starting at 12AM schedule in order to get as much as possible accomplished before his Mr. Mom duties began.
