King Midas
Sep 10, 2007 The kids and I have been studying ancient Persia in history these first few weeks of school. One of the suggestions for additional literature to accompany the lesson was the story of King Midas. Later, as I was mopping the floor, I tried to explain to the children the lesson we can learn from King Midas. I’m always a little clumsy at this kind of thing since I’m more of a feeler and I tend to intuit, just sort of *know* a truth inherent in a story. If I’m going to explain it to someone else, I really need to force myself to think about how to express it adequately.
Consequently, my off the cuff explanation made while mopping was somewhat clumsy and maybe a little sloppy but it came of something like, “if we love our passions (obsessions) more than we love God and our fellow man, we will end up with a ruined life…maybe on the outside it looks beautiful but the inside will be as hollow as a golden statue.”
I asked Ana if this made sense and she replied, “My butt crack itches.”
Maybe I need to work on my technique?
