Apr 17, 2006 …glad he wasn’t in attendance at tonight’s Bridegroom Matins Service. I chanted and I don’t know what he’d think about my "performance" tonight, especially after I was lost in Tone 6 a couple of times. Only the really musical people know when I’ve made a royal mess of things. Everyone else thinks I’ve just done some weird Byzantine melody…at least I *hope* that’s what they think! Most of all, I hope I haven’t distracted anyone from worship when things don’t go quite right with my chanting.
Such a beautiful service, Bridegroom Matins…

And I am sure you did a wonderful job chanting: I am in awe of those like you who give up being able to sit [or stand ;-)] back and pray like we do -- focussing on the needs of their parish as they chant together and work togther to lead us in worship. I truly am, and I try and thank our choir members as often as I can for their great self-sacrifice and love for the parish in doing this. Thanks be to God.
There's some difficult chanting for us, too, this week and I'm so thankful for our readers and their hardy voices.
...thanks for all the encouraging remarks. I suppose one reason I'm still chanting is so that I can be humbled on a regular basis! I also love having the music in my head all the time.
