« The Angel Cried... »
Apr 24, 2006 My favorite Pascha hymn:
The Angel cried to the Lady full of grace
Rejoice! Rejoice! O pure Virgin!
Again, I say rejoice!
Thy son is risen from His three days in the tomb!
With Himself He has raised all the dead.
Rejoice, rejoice, O ye people!
Shine! Shine! Shine, O new Jerusalem!
The glory of the Lord has shown on thee.
Exult now, exult and be glad, O Sion.
Be radiant, O pure Theotokos,
In the Resurrection, the Resurrection of thy Son
Happy Bright Week!

It is a beautiful hymn: and there are so many beautiful and striking hymns, especially at Pascha. I only wish I could remember tham all!
And, I always love to hear it on Forgiveness Sunday too, as we enter into Lent - a reminder where we are going.
Mimi...I was glad to hear it on Forgiveness Sunday also...it's very encouraging to hear all those hymns as we enter in to Lent...

Christ is Risen!
Indeed He is risen!
I'll tell you, when we reentered the nave Pascha morning with lights on, several hundred pound brass chandelier swinging, etc, and we were singing Christ is Risen from the Dead... is was deafening! People were so besides themselves with joy and happiness we could hardly contain it. Truly, it is the Feast of all Feasts!
Thanks for the links. David likes listening to "The Angel Cried."
(alright, alright...I do too!)
Christ is Risen!
We had the chicken pox in our house this year. Peter got to Thurs. nite services. I did the Friday HS retreat, and some of the Royal Hours...but no way would tag-team, midnight parenting of a poxy child and the others blossoming with strep, and a 100 mile drive work on Pascha. (Within days all 5 of us ended up on antibiotics. Sonja got a secondary infection with the pox...which was probably (not sure) the strep the rest of us got.)
Indescribably sad. We had reserved a hotel for three days so we could go to ALL the services this year.
I won't say Pascha wasn't beautiful...it was, how could it not be? But, boy, we feel the loss. My daughter just sobbed and sobbed on Friday night when she realized we weren't going to be able to go...she was no where near done getting pox yet.
There is no other place to be but in Liturgy. And as was said to me jokingly, and it did make me laugh finally...next year in Jerusalem! God willing.
It's good to hear from you. I hope you have all recovered from everything. It seems I have come down with my usual "the excitement's all over runny nose, sore throat and low grade fever."
We will keep you in our prayers.
We're all better, thanks be to God. It was a furious assault, but shorter-lived.
Sorry you've got a post-exertion virus, my dear.
Spring in B-town...pretty glorious if I recall correctly?
Peace,
Liza
INDEED! HE IS TRULY RISEN! Love this hymn so badly. My mother and I tried to sing it earlier, and well... We forgot most of the verses... *sigh* It's wonderful though! Happy Pascha to you.
