Voyeur...

Tonight, we drove to Annapolis after dinner to enjoy the beautiful first day of fall evening (it felt more like the first day of summer).  I found myself peeking into the cars as we sped down the interstate.  I’ve always liked these drive by glimpses of other lives.  Unlike the more prolonged people watching at the mall or airport, I only have a few seconds to  figure out what might be going on over there.

Is the man with the tense look on his face who also happens to be driving a car plastered with wolf bumper stickers heading off to rescue a pet that became too much for someone?  Is the woman driving the SUV with a disinterested stare on her face exhausted from a long day with the kids and grateful that they are in the back seat and quiet?  Why does the person driving the Hummer have his windows tinted?  I guess so nut jobs like me can’t catch a glimpse of the life that he thinks is private.  It’s never totally private though, is it?

We returned home and found we couldn’t drive down our street due to multiple fire engines blocking the entrance.  We had to go home by another way…which luckily we figured out.  There was a crowd outside the house which had been on fire.  It appeared that the situation was under control by the time we returned.  Unfortunately, one of Ana’s little friends lived in that house, so we did walk down the street to make sure she and all her family were safe (they were).  We came home and left the crowd behind.  I can’t imagine having my life fall apart in front of an audience.  A few moments later, the news helicopter could be heard overhead.

Family home destroyed.  Film at 11.  What’s wrong with us?

Pray for the family.  People in this neighborhood don’t always have a lot of resources to fall back on in such a time as this.

God bless!
