Well...
Oct 5, 2007 …fall was a bit stymied this week. I guess I should blush after that last post. We’ve had temps up in the 80’s and yesterday was humid with a thick cloud of fog in the morning. David looked out the window and said, “look, Mommy…it’s snowing outside.” I hated to disappoint! Today feels as though it will be humid also but there is a strange cool breeze that blows in every now and then. It’s like being at the beach with the hotness of the sun being tempered by the cool breeze blowing across the water and then one’s skin.
Ana is now riding her bike without training wheels and needs me less and less to steady her take off. I guess the world, or at least the neighborhood will soon be hers! Another milestone was passed last night. We read, Green Eggs and Ham out loud together. It was definitely one of those “passing the torch” moments in a weird kind of way. I didn’t think about it until it was over, but really, how many times have I read Dr. Seuss to the kids and now one of them is reading it to me. Perhaps this bespeaks of things to come…I may try to record us reading with iMovie so our far away relatives can see. Is that corny?
The kids and I have been learning to draw with Drawing With Children. I highly recommend this book! It has a very open ended and encouraging method of teaching kids to draw…and this old lady as well. Ana and David drew very realistic looking birds the other day (for a 5 and 6 year old) and are so thrilled. We may take a trip to the Walters Art Gallery in the next week or two to look at some other art and maybe give them a bit of inspiration. The whole idea of teaching kids to really look at the world and then interpret it through an artistic medium seems perfectly in line with a contemplative life.
Hope all is well in your neck of the woods…God bless
