Pronouns...
January 8, 2011 I was gifted a real live paper journal this year. It’s in a really pretty red leather cover. Thus, I have been attempting to write a little in it every day and it occurred to me this morning that I should share the occasional entry or two. Here is one from this week.
As some of my readers may know, that is if there are any left, I work for a non-public special education pre-school. We serve children who have educational needs that cannot be met due to developmental delay, social emotional disorders, behavioral problems, etc. The particular student I am speaking of here is one of the youngest and most verbal I work with. One of her goals is the proper use of pronouns.
From the journal:
I took one of my youngest students, a girl, to the bathroom today before our session. While she was finishing up at the sinks, we had a little discussion.
Student: “Me want a towel.” (to dry her hands)
Me: “Not, ‘me want a towel.’ Say, ‘I want a towel.’”
Student, looking at me with obvious concern, “You want a towel?”
Pronouns are hard!
Maybe you had to be there, but it was pretty funny to me at the time!
